My First Devlog - Goals for 2021


I've decided to make and publish 1 game a month in 2021. To stay motivated I will post devlogs and try to be more active in general.

In december 2020 I finally decided to start learning how to make games. I went with Unity since it has so many tutorials and it's quite powerful. I have some drawing, music and graphic design skills but I had absolutely ZERO programing experience before this.

After a month of jumping around different courses and getting lost I decided to go with BlackThornProd's "Make your first 2D game" course on Udemy.  FALLING DOWN DOWN DOWN is the result of what I learned from it.

CHALLENGES

  • Programming is the biggest challenge of all and one of the reason why I kept to game so simple. I already learned so much in these past weeks but I know I only scratched the surface. 
  • Staying commited to finishing the project. It's so easy to give up and move on to the next thing once the development gets too challenging. 

FUN PARTS

  • Drawing and animating characters is my favourite part of the project. I love seeing my characters come to life and making fun animations like the run animation of the player.
  • Bringing all the parts together and actually playing something I built.

UNSOLVED PROBLEMS

  • The mute button doesn't work perfectly.
  • The time is displayed in seconds only (even after 60 seconds, it doen't convert to minutes).
  • There is no record of your best time.

GOALS FOR FEBRUARY'S GAME

  • Improve my C# skills.
  • Learn to use the particle system.
  • Draw at least one character with more details : arms, facial expressions, more animations.
